Chapter Eleven

If Jack Wilson didn’t kill Chad Scalia, I was going to be very disappointed. I wanted it to be him if it wasn’t Tiffany. I was sticking with my belief that Yancey couldn’t murder someone in cold blood. I just hoped my belief was correct.

Lucy looked at me. “Didn’t you have an issue with Rudy Gallo?”

I pressed my lips together as I gazed at the front of the RG Plumbing Supply store. Rudy Gallo owned the shop, and Lucy was right. We had had issues once. But that was a couple of years ago, and I was willing to let bygones be bygones. The question was, could Rudy also let bygones be bygones? What issues you may ask? I had accused him of murder. And sure, he was a sore head at the time, but he had had time to cool off.

“Yeah. Let’s hope he’s not in today.”

She nodded. “Otherwise, we’ll be sprinting for the car?”

“Yup.” I put my iced coffee in the drink holder, and we got out of the car. We really needed to get to work on running sprints soon.

The plumbing supply shop also employed a plumber that you could call for a very steep price—Jack Wilson. I liked to use Tom Friar, an independent plumber in town because he charged a lot less.

It was cool inside the shop, and I was glad to see there were only two other customers who were looking over the toilet parts. Jack was behind the counter, watching a video on the laptop at the front counter. He looked up and nodded at us, and we returned his nod.

I glanced at Lucy, and we went to stand in front of a display of kitchen faucets not far from the front counter. My kitchen faucet was perfectly fine, having recently been replaced when we did some work after moving into my house, but we needed a reason to be in here.

“This is nice,” Lucy said, running a finger over a polished nickel faucet.

I nodded. “I like that. It’s similar to the one we have in our kitchen. I think you should get it. You can update your bathroom faucets to match.”

She rolled her eyes. “Ed is a tightwad. He’s not letting me get new faucets. And especially not at that price.”

I chuckled. “I don’t know what Rudy is thinking charging these prices. People don’t have that kind of money to spend on things like kitchen faucets.” I glanced at Jack, but he was uninterested in us.

“What now?” Lucy whispered.

“I guess we have to go talk to him and see what he says. He obviously isn’t going to come to see if we need help.” I picked up a smaller faucet and brought it to the front counter, setting it down. “Hi, Jack.”

He looked up from his video and shut it off. “Hey, Allie. Lucy. What can I help you ladies with today?”

“We were looking at this faucet and we wondered if you had it in stainless steel? Not the polished nickel?”

“Let me take a look at the computer.
